The Castle District

The Tour
The iconic St. Vitus Cathedral towers over the Castle and looks down at Prague from its lofty perch above the Vltava River, a wonderful place to sightsee. Work started on the cathedral in 1344 but wasn't finished until 1929! It's seated in the third courtyard of the Prague Castle, itself settled in the 8th or 9th centuries and being continuously constructed until 1934. The juxtaposition of these styles leads to some really interesting sightseeing, you'll find lots of places to make off-beat and unusual pictures.
The Castle is surrounded by palatial residences of former noble families, the Lichtensteins, the Schwarzenbergs, the Lobkowitzes, the Burgraves, the Sternbergs. These residences are now in use by the the Foreign Ministry, the Catholic Church, the Prime Minister's office, the Castle guard and the National Gallery to name but a few. There is also the Loreto Cloister and the Strahov Monastery of which both demand attention by the intrepid sightseeing photographer.
Most intriguing perhaps though, are the small parks and local houses which are located immediately next to the castle and yet are ignored by many who pass through the Castle District on their way to see the entire city in one day. Novy Svet is a small valley of ancient houses and is a prime place to shoot amazing and interesting photographs.
Finally, there are simply wonderful gardens filled with sparkling fountains and strange art surrounding the Castle. The moat wraps around the Castle from Novy Svet to the Serpentine. The Queen's Summer Palace and the Lichtenstein Gardens both afford incredible panoramic views of the Lesser Town and Prague, again offering wonderful sightseeing.
We work our tours on a first-come, first-served basis. If you are the first person to book a tour on a certain date, you can choose which photo sightseeing guide you would like (depending on his professional availability) and what time you would like the tour (sunrise, during the day or sunset) and we'll do the rest. If there is already a tour going on your chosen date we'll inform you of which guide is leading the tour and from where it's leaving. We will also pass along phone numbers to the guides so you can make sure to get your tour. If that doesn't suit you, as long as there are two people, you can book your own separate tour.
