Frequently Asked Questions
If you have a question about a particular workshop or a question in general, see if the answers below provide some insight. As people ask more questions we will get them posted here to help everyone.
What should I bring to attend a Workshop?
If you are interested in taking a course you need to bring your camera, your lenses, your flashes (if you have some), your computer, a spare hard drive (if you have one) and some extra flash memory cards for your camera. The reason we ask you to bring YOUR stuff is because it's what you will work with in the future and it's important for you as a photographer to get comfortable working with what you own and is available to you daily. If you use some stuff that's provided for you that's not much help in the long run.
Will I need to take time off work to attend a Workshop?
The courses are intensive learning experiences. You will definitely have to take time off of work because on most days the course you will attend will start at 9 in the morning and run until 9 in the evening with breaks. You'll be out in Prague shooting photos most of the day and you will be in the classroom during the evenings looking at people's work, editing your own work and learning to work with your equipment.
Is the hotel included in the price of the workshop?
No, your accommodation is up to you. We have gotten a very good rate from the Hotel Rott, which is only a one minute walk from the classroom.
Do I need to bring my cameras and computers for the Platypus Workshop?
If you are taking the Platypus Multimedia Workshop then you DO NOT need to bring any equipment, it's all being provided by Apple, Canon, Libec and Seinheiser. But this is the only workshop being run like this.
I have a lot of gear, do I need to bring it all for the Wedding Reportage Workshop?
If you are taking the Wedding Reportage Workshop you should bring most of the kit you would use to shoot a wedding. Obviously if you are coming fromt eh US and you use big lights and softboxes, this won't be practical, but you should bring remotes, smaller softboxes, a tripod, monopod and other stuff which you would normally use to shoot a wedding
Will there be assistants on the Wedding Reportage Workshop?
Students in the Wedding Reportage Workshop will spend half the time shooting and half the time assisting. This way students will gain an understanding of the value of shooting and working with an assistant.
Why is the Wedding Reportage Workshop more expensive than the other classes?
We will be hiring models for three days to shoot with at various locations around the city so you'll end up with some spectacular images for your portfolio.
Can only one Person take a Photo Tour?
Absolutely! However we require a minimum payment of $400 for a tour. If you are happy to pay for your own personal pro photo guide though, he'll be happy to take you on the tour of your choice.
