R.I.P. Boris Yurchenko
Boris Yurchenko, Pulitzer Prize winning Russian photographer who worked for the AP for 23 years, died of cancer in a Moscow hospital Feb. 26 at the age of 72. Yurchenko was also a three-time winner of the Overseas Press Club and winner of World Press Photo prize. I had the pleasure of working against Boris when I was with EPA in the early 1990s and he was always to be feared and respected because he would always come up with the best picture. To beat Boris was to beat one of the world's best and it didn't happen often. I took over the AP bureau as the photo chief in 1996 just after Boris had retired and he was sorely missed during my time there.
